People have been fascinated by religion since the beginning of time. Religion exists as an answer to the unanswerable questions in our lives. The stories and legends resonate so strongly with humans that they have lasted for thousands of years. For centuries, worship has been expressed in song. Some of the earliest music was written in praise and worship.

    Religion is still an extremely important aspect of life for many people, but the majority of people express their devotion to religion, or atheism in different ways. Popular music is still being written about religion everyday, but it's messages and reach is no longer confined to altars and church halls. Many of the most popular musicians of the 20th and 21st centuries have tackled the subject of religion, causing controversy and praise in almost equal parts.
