Kanye West

Kanye Omari West was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1977 to an English professor mother and a photographer/church counsellor father. West completed one year of study at Chicago State University's art school before moving to New York City in 2001 to pursue his music career. He went on to produce albums for Jay-Z, Ludacris and Beyoncé. Kanye began working on his own debut album, The College Dropout, which was released in 2004. Kanye's album sold 2.6 million copies and won the Best Rap Album Grammy that year. His next two albums, Late Registration (2005) and Graduation (2007) were also awarded this Grammy award.

Well known for his overconfident attitude, frequent antics and critisizm of public figures has caused much controversy for West. Kanye's Christian upbringing has left him with strong feelings and attitudes towards religion. Kanye frequently uses religious themes in his music and persona, going so far as to pose as Jesus for his Rolling Stone cover. When asked about what he meant by this, West responded with "I don't wanna be ***** Christ-like. I wanna be me-like."

A group of dedicated fans have started an internet religion, Yeezianity, based on the idea that Kanye West is the "highest living human and will usher in a New Age of humanity."
